Keep South Carolina Wild
Hunters and anglers were the earliest and most vocal supporters of conservation and scientific wildlife management. They were the first to recognize that rapid development and unregulated uses of wildlife were threatening the future of many species. South Carolina’s varied landscapes provide great opportunities to hunt on public or private land for deer, turkey, doves, quail, ducks, and more. SCWF is committed to educating people for the principles of R3: Recruitment, Retention & Reactivation of hunters and fishermen. Our programs teach introductory skills as well as creating a community of like-minded folks to exchange ideas and stories and work together for conservation.
SCWF is proud to offer programs which provide women of all ages with the skills needed to participate in outdoor recreation – including archery, birding, fishing, hunting, kayaking, paddleboarding, and much more. We now offer two retreats each year, POWR and POWR Up, for women to learn these skills in a supportive environment – see below for details on each of these retreats. We also offer one-day workshops called POWR+ throughout the year in locations around the state to build upon the topics introduced in the retreats.
Alex Killman is a guest writer for SCWF sharing his experiences of connecting with nature, enjoying the outdoors, and advocating for conservation – all through hunting. Read his informative and entertaining guest articles at the link below.
National Hunting and Fishing Day promotes the contributions of hunters and anglers to conservation. It is traditionally held the fourth Saturday in September across the country. South Carolina celebrates with a free event in Seneca to introduce kids and people of all ages to the basics of hunting, fishing and many other outdoor activities so they can learn to enjoy these activities safely and sustainably.
98% of each $25 stamp purchase goes directly into protecting wetland habitat through conservation easements, leases, and purchasing of critical habitat for the National Wildlife Refuge System. The Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act (or “Duck Stamp Act”) requires anyone 16 or older to purchase a Stamp for waterfowl hunting (in addition to state issued license.) But you don’t have to be a hunter to purchase a Federal Duck Stamp! SCWF sells the Duck Stamp to further support protection of wetland habitats – order yours through our website so you can show all your friends how you are conserving wetland habitat!
