Keep South Carolina Wild
With South Carolina’s bountiful waterways, fishing is an easy and fun way to spend your day enjoying nature with the company of good friends, and, if you’re lucky, add delicious food to your table! From the trout streams of the Upstate, and the bream, bass and catfish of the rivers and lakes of the Midlands, to the flounder and redfish of our Lowcountry salt marshes and the blue marlin & red snapper of the deep ocean - there’s a myriad of opportunities! SCWF programs teach the basics of fishing, best fishing practices, and conservation measures needed for aquatic resources.
EVERY SUMMER: June 1—August 31
Have you recently learned to fish? Are you a lifelong angler? Either way, you are in the right spot! PLISHING is a combination of the Swedish phrase “plocka upp”, meaning litter pick up, and fishing! Join our challenge and, as you set out on your fishing adventures, you can log your fish as well as litter you pick up and dispose of properly. Each fish caught, fish released, and bag of litter collected can earn you prizes (in addition to enjoying the outdoors and practicing conservation!) Follow the directions below to get started!
Whether you are releasing a fish because it’s too small, out of season, or you have reached your retention limit, follow these helpful tips below to improve that fish’s chance of survival. Make sure you know your requirements when fishing for snapper-grouper species in South Atlantic federal waters. Click the link below for resources from South Atlantic Fishery Management Council.
The Collegiate Angling Program (CAP) is an aquatic education and fishing program where college students serve as fishing mentors to peers to teach them about all things related to fishing and fisheries management. CAP provides a community of students who are teaching, sharing, and building a fishing community over the school year. CAP just completed its pilot year and we hope to bring you more on CAP in the fall of 2024. We want to thank the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame for providing financial support for this pilot program and Angling Women for providing the gear.
