Keep South Carolina Wild

Clean
Environment

All wildlife need clean and healthy environments to live and thrive.

SCWF continually works to conserve and restore habitats across the state, and there are several ways you can make an impact also!

Invasive species—plants and animals which have been introduced into our state—are a significant threat to native wildlife.  Invasive animals can compete for food sources and breeding territory, and invasive plants often choke out native plants and forever change the local ecosystem.

Litter control

Litter and other pollution can affect wildlife in a number of ways including entanglement/entrapment, mistaking trash for food or nesting materials, or general habitat degradation.

You can help!  Litter is an ongoing, and significant threat to wildlife in our state, and around the world.  Here are some ways to help:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Reducing the amount of waste, especially plastics and styrofoam, is a way to increase the demand for sustainable packaging, and send less trash to the landfill.

Litter sweeps

Pick up litter in your neighborhood, with a group of friends, or with a community organization.  Every little bit helps!

You can help drive change in our state! Click on the button below to log your picked-up litter into the SC Aquarium’s Litter Journal.

Join SCWF for an upcoming Litter Sweep – add yourself to our volunteer list here to be notified about upcoming events.

Go PLISHING!

Check out SCWF’s Plishing Challenge every summer to record valuable data and have a chance to win great prizes while also cleaning up our waterways!

Adopt a Bin (for fishing line)

Discarded fishing line is a significant hazard to wildlife and a nuisance to boaters.  Recycled monofilament line is used to build artificial reefs which increase valuable habitat for fish.
