Creating Wildlife Habitat

Backyard Backyard Wildlife HabitatTM
Want to help wildlife in South Carolina? Look no further than your own backyard. Habitat destruction is one of the leading causes of species decline today. The Backyard Wildlife Habitat™ Program is one way that you can help enhance wildlife habitat right in your own backyard! It is easy to provide a natural habitat for a variety of birds, butterflies, mammals, and other animals on your land.

Schoolyard Schoolyard Habitat®

The Schoolyard Habitats® Program was formally created in 1995 by the National Wildlife Federation as an extension of the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program to focus specifically on assisting schools, teachers, students and community members in the use of school grounds as learning sites for wildlife conservation and cross-curricular learning.

Community Community Habitat

South Carolina currently boasts 3 certified community habitats in the state.  See if your community can be certified.

Carolina Fence Carolina FenceTM Garden
As members of the South Carolina Wildlife Federation's W.A.I.T.™ (Wildlife And Industry Together) team traveled to sites around the state, they explored the ways in which a simple landscape element could incorporate native and historical values. They were also eager to attract native species to habitats, while providing a landscape element that could be adapted to most any public or private setting. As a result of their discussions, the Carolina Fence™ was born.

Industry W.A.I.T.TM

W.A.I.T. is designed to encourage corporate landowners to integrate wildlife habitat needs into corporate land management decisions.
